4f Bourj Hammoud

Bourj Hammoud is one of the many places outside of Beirut but close enough to it where you can enjoy a good visit now and then! There is this wonderful DVD store there where I buy my Movies from. Plus there are all sorts of shopping centers filled with Lebanese produced (and really good quality) stuff.

Bourj Hammoud is a part of the Metn Mohafaza or district, and is renowned for being populated by Armenians escaping genocide from the early twentieth century. The Aremnians are a significant part of the Lebanese fabric, most of the second generation Armenians speak Arabic, French, English and of course Armenian. They hold strongly to their heritage, which is a plus for Lebanon as it encourages the Lebanese to learn to be tolerant of Others. They are not discriminated against as much as the Kurds or the Ethopians/Migrant workers in the country, but are not exactly embraced either. They pretty much live on the cusps of Lebanon, in in between spaces, and as in between figures, not here nor there.

One of the largest Armenian political parities in Lebanon is Tash Nak, they are supporters of the March 8th movement (pro Hizballah). There rivals are Hizb al Henchag or the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party, and Ramgavar.

As usual these pictures are my own!

check out the Armenian, French, Arabic, and English-LOL
