Poems about the Sea

,Water is distinctively Lebanese, the coast engulfs us with its torrents and with its delights. Here are some poems about the sea:

I Am Not Seaworthy
by Toni Morrison
I am not seaworthy.
Look how the fish mistake my hair for home.
I had a life, like you. I shouldn’t be riding the sea.
I am not seaworthy.
Let me be earthbound; star fixed
Mixed with the sun and smacking air.
Give me the smile, the magic kiss
To trick little boy death of my hand.
I am not seaworthy.
Look how the fish mistake my hair for home.

Bowing
By ME

Bow to the tides
that come forth
with moon beams
upon the water
crusting the edge
of flux.

Bow and be blessed
by the dirtied water
once pristine
now drenched in its
stench.

Bow and be blessed
for the times
have had coarse
effects,
dried skin
bleeds deep.

Bow so that
the moon
crusts on your
back spine
curling scars that
bleed deep.

Bow and be blessed
that today is
not yesterday,
that tomorrow
is not today,
that that stench
is all but curable
with the rains
tears.
